Community Data Policy
PriceMapper is powered by community-contributed price data. Learn how we handle, process, and use the data you contribute.
1. What We Extract From Your Receipts
When you upload a receipt, our AI system extracts:
- Product Information: Item name, brand, size/quantity, unit of measure
- Price Data: Regular price, sale price, discounts applied
- Store Information: Store name, location (city/address), date of purchase
What We DO NOT Extract
- Payment method or card numbers
- Personal names or addresses
- Loyalty card numbers
- Cashier or employee information
2. How Your Data Becomes Community Data
Your contributed price observations go through a pipeline:
- 1Extraction
AI processes your receipt image and extracts structured data
- 2Validation
Data is checked for anomalies (impossible prices, duplicates)
- 3Normalization
Products are matched to our catalog, units standardized
- 4Aggregation
Your observation joins others to build price statistics
- 5Anonymization
Individual user identity is removed from community views
3. Data Visibility
What Other Users CAN See
- Aggregated price statistics (average, min, max, trend)
- Number of observations ("8 community reports")
- Confidence scores based on data freshness and volume
- Store-level price comparisons
What Other Users CANNOT See
- Your individual receipts or receipt images
- Your username or account information
- Your specific shopping history
- Your location or household data
4. Data Quality Indicators
We display confidence metrics to help users understand data reliability:
| Confidence Level | Meaning |
|---|---|
| High (80-100%) | 10+ recent observations, consistent data |
| Medium (50-79%) | 3-9 observations, some variance |
| Low (Below 50%) | 1-2 observations or stale data |
5. Your Contribution Rights
As a data contributor, you can:
- View Your Contributions: See all receipts and data you've submitted
